Character limits (all languages)
| Field | Limit |
|---|---|
| App name | 30 characters |
| Subtitle | 30 characters |
| Promotional text | 170 characters |
| Description | 4,000 characters |
| Keywords | 100 characters |
| What's New (release notes) | 4,000 characters |
Limits are identical across locales and counted per character — a real advantage in Chinese, Japanese and Korean, where 30 characters of app name says far more than it does in German. Field-by-field strategy is covered in the localization guide.
Filling all of them without the busywork
StoreTranslate translates your metadata into any or all of these locales in one run — AI translation aware of each field’s limit, uploaded straight to App Store Connect. The marginal cost of locale #50 is the same as locale #2, which changes the economics of “which languages are worth it”: all of them.
App Store languages FAQ
How many languages does the App Store support? +
App Store Connect supports 50 metadata localizations, including regional variants like Spanish (Mexico) vs Spanish (Spain) and Portuguese (Brazil) vs Portuguese (Portugal).
What is the primary language of an app? +
The primary language is the fallback: any storefront for which you haven’t provided a localization shows your primary-language metadata. For most apps that’s English (U.S.).
Are character limits different per language? +
No — the limits (30 for name and subtitle, 100 for keywords, 170 for promo text, 4,000 for description and What’s New) are the same everywhere and counted per character, which effectively gives character-dense scripts like Chinese and Japanese much more room.
Can different storefronts share one localization? +
Yes. A localization covers every storefront that uses it — es-MX serves most of Latin America, ar-SA serves the Arabic-language storefronts, en-GB covers many Commonwealth countries.
